Safety Pin Fugees Family Inc necklace
I can't help but wonder what it would be like to be new to a country, unfamiliar with the culture, and afraid that at any moment you could be harassed, or worse, be asked to leave forever. It must be a lonely, frightening feeling.
The safety pin concept originated in Great Britain as a show of solidarity to minorities and women who may feel marginalized, so they can know there's someone "safe" to talk to. I took this concept and made it into a 16" necklace. 1mm steel ball chain.
50% of every purchase will be donated to Fugees Family Inc, a non profit organization dedicated to helping refugees and victims of war. The founder, Luma Mufleh, spoke at the Atlanta March for Civil Rights and Women, and was very impactful. More information on their work can be found at www.fugeesfamily.org.
